A.R.E.

A.R.E. stands for Association for Research and Enlightenment, which is where I work. It is a very nice place. Only a block and a half off the beach, at 67th Street and Atlantic Avenue. Within the Visitor Center is the Bookstore, the Conference Auditorium, the Meditation Room, and the Library.

The original Cayce/Reilly Hospital now houses a Cayce therapies Day Spa, The Cayec/Reilly School of Masotherapy, and the faculty for Atlantic University. In front of the hospital building is a labyrinth built into the pavement of the patio.
Also on the premises is a meditation garden including a koi pond and water falls. It is very peaceful and has several benches to sit and listen to the water, the birds, and the occasional frog. During the spring the Azaleas bloom beautifully. Later in the summer the water lilies take over as the show piece of the garden.
If you ever visit Virginia Beach, make sure you stop in and visit The A.R.E.

Family Quilts
I found these quilts among my things that I have been going thru. I know they are family quilts, yet just exactly who stitched them, I'm not sure. They are very beautiful pieces of hand work.

Nesting Mourning Doves
This spring I had the pleasure of watching a pair of mourning doves nest on one of the columns of my front porch.
One day I noticed the nest with a bird sitting in it.

I knew she had eggs because she would not leave the nest, and if she did it was for a very short time. Then one day, I saw the little chicks.

I continued to watch. One night when I came home both chicks were there. They were much larger. Almost the size of an adult.

The next morning as I left for work, I noticed that there was only one chick.

And when I got home that evening, that chick was gone, also. I saw them around for a few days. They hung out around the bushes in the front of my house. Now I can't tell the chicks from the adults, so I don't know if they are still here or not. It was fun to watch, and be a part of their start in life, if not more than vicariously.

Sedona, Arizona
Recently I got to go on a small holiday. I took a long weekend and went to Sedona, Arizona, where my fiend Sarah was vacationing for the entire week. It was beautiful out there. Yet I don't feel a draw to be out there.

Here is a picture of Bell Rock. One of the picturesque red rock formations that Sedona is so famous for.

On the drive to Sedona, I got to see lots of cactus. Yet, there are no saguaro cactus in Sedona. The saguaro don't live above about 3000 feet of elevation.

One day we drove about 3 hours to go see the Grand Canyon. It really is impressive. To think that water erosion created this magnificent display of one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

Cleaning For A Reason
Not too long, I found out about an organization called 'Cleaning For A Reason'. It is a national non-profit organization that co-ordinates people who are receiving treatment for Cancer with maid/cleaning services. If you are accepted, and there is a maid/cleaning service in your area, you receive 4 general house cleanings.
I had tried to apply several times, to no avail. The application process is only open Monday thru Thursday starting at 12 noon Central Time, and they close the application process after they have gotten 50 applications on that day. After being reminded about the program by someone I work with, I tried again and got in. I sent in my application, and was notified that it may take 2 weeks or more to get a reply, due to the high volume of applications.
Within a week of submitting my application, I received an email letting me know that Cleaning For A Reason was matching my accepted application with a local maid/cleaning service. Within a couple of days, I got a call from Custom Maid to set up an appointment for them to come to the house and discuss their services. They were at the house on Monday, of this week. I have been accepted and have scheduled my first cleaning of 2 weeks. That will give me time recover from my last treatment. Speaking of which, I am having my last treatment as I type this entry. My sister from Omaha is here to be with me and she is kind enough to let me borrow her laptop.
More about the last treatment later.
